Client Testimonial with Hip Pain – Mike, Age 64

Our clients experience means the world to us at Halo.  We love hearing about how our services help improve their quality of life! Regardless of the reason that someone comes in to try cryotherapy, we always want them walking out our doors feeling better than when they came in. Less pain, soreness, and stiffness can really put a spring in your step!

Today, I want to share one specific experience with you from a gentleman in his 60’s who was experiencing serious hip pain and inflammation, and talk a bit about why this happens.

“After experiencing serious pain in my right hip due to muscles that had atrophied and caused a lack of circulation I tried Cryotherapy. Whole body cryotherapy released the stress and increased the blood flow to the affected muscles. After a few cryotherapy treatments the pain and discomfort was gone completely. I have had no hip pain since. I continue to get cryotherapy treatments periodically as it energizes me and helps to maintain my physical condition.”   Mike – 64

Mike, this is awesome.  Thank you for sharing your experience with us.  I’m guessing several of you are asking yourselves these questions-

-How does this happen?

-What about extreme cold temperatures for short periods of time can create these results?

-Will it work like this for me?

Every person who walks in to a cryotherapy center across the country is different, but we all have an emergency receptor in our skin that responds to extreme cold temperatures.  We are not able to alert this response throughout our normal lives because we never experience cold enough temperatures like cryotherapy provides.  We expose the skin to these extreme temperatures for 2 to 3 minutes, which forces the body to do a number of things.  What we need to remember is that each body is different, so we all may get different results.  That being said, some of those results can be amazing and improve your daily life to get you; a) back to being pain free, b) working out more, c) recovering faster, d) sleeping better, etc.

The emergency receptor in our skin is alerted, now what?

  1. ENDORPHINS! The first thing your body does is release our endorphins due to the shock of the cold.  These endorphins are our bodies natural painkillers, and alleviate aches and pains as well as give us that “post-exercise” rush or “runners high” as many call it.
  2. Vasoconstriction of the blood vessels in the skin.  Our skin is our largest organ, and holds an awful lot of blood.  These blood vessels close, sending that blood to our core to protect our vital organs from the cold.
  3. As we step out of the Cryosauna, we get vasodilation of all the blood vessels throughout our bodies and receive vigorous, oxygenated and nutrient rich blood flow from our core out to the rest of our body.  This vigorous blood flow is great for muscle recovery, flushing inflammation and toxins from our bodies, and giving us a boost of energy and vitality.  The muscles of the body receive all of that positive blood flow and are able to rebuild and recover way quicker than before!
  4. Norepinephrine release! Yay!! This neurotransmitter is the “good vibes, happy feet dancing, glowing with energy, wow! This is amazing!” stuff released and affects the pleasure center of our brain.  We get a mood elevating aspect with cryotherapy from this release of norepinephrine, which never decreases over time and repetitious use.  The use of cryotherapy for depression and anxiety has grown in popularity and is used in medical facilities in Europe for Mental health benefits.

The combination of these natural bodily reactions can help our bodies immensely, regardless of who we are or what we are dealing with.  We all go through our daily lives and put up with a lot of discomfort, struggle to have the energy to get past 4 pm, and always wake up too sore to work out again today.  The use of cryotherapy can help us.  Give it a try.  Call us at Halo Cryotherapy with any questions you may have, or health concerns.  We are happy to talk you through our quick appointment process.

Have a great day, and come in and chill with us on a hot summer day!
